Nigeria is the only coal-producing country in West Africa where the coals are with the advantage of low sulfur, low ash and environmental friendly, etc. Nigeria coalfields are distributed in the humid tropical rainforest regions and derived Savannah regions, and then extend to northward Lafia - Obi regions. According to the statistics, the coal resource reserve is about 3 billion tons. The coal resources are mainly located in the southeast of the country and the covering areas are about 4 square kilometers, especially the coal reserves account for about 70% of the total coal reserves in Enugu, that is why it is so called the "Coal City". In addition to the coal resources, there are also considerable lignite reserves which have not been explored on a large scale.
